COSMETOLOGIST
Karyne Tinord is a Licensed Cosmetologist that specializes in Painless braiding, who in 2021 retired from braiding clients hair to pursue her Artistic gifts and teaching others how to Braid better with her painless techniques.
Karyne mastered the art of turning hair into wearable Art in 2019. In As early as 2014, she practiced with leftover extensions, she found her new creative venture to be therapeutic and fulfilling. Today, Karyne has over 40 wearable art pieces on display in her Gallery Kay de Trés (House of Braids) located at NYBeauty Suites on 81 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn NY 11201 suite B11A.
Back when Karyne was in elementary school, PS 221 in crown heights Brooklyn NY, she was very heavy into the arts: drawing, poetry and sculpting. But as she entered Junior High school, MS 391, she started braiding her hair herself. This led to her being asked to do almost everyone’s hair by High School (Sheepshead Bay) and College(York CUNY).
Though Karyne found braiding a gift she never saw it as a profession or something she would grow up to do as a career. “No one says, I want to be a braider when I grow up, but now they might” – Karyne Tinord
MY STORY
Growing up Karyne got her hair braided from a family member and it was not a good experience, in that incident she had had her edges snatched. From that moment on Karyne made sure not to allow anyone to touch her hair again, and to become a beacon of hope for other individuals who want their hair braided.
Karyne started out doing sew-ins but wanted to do something that was much more of a protective style, so braiding without any tension became her niche. And word spread quickly of her magical hands, that not only grew hair but it was soothing. In light of the pandemic, a broken Ankle and a new found passion, Karyne made the decision to retire from braiding clients’ hair to teaching Salon owners and fellow braiders to Braid better. Karyne is able to teach everyone who signs up. In March 2022, Karyne Tinord launched her new Painless Braid course within her school Better Braid Academy. Better Braid Academy is for individuals to learn how to properly and painlessly braid to give their clients a more desirable experience.
COMMUNITY
When you support Hair By Karyne, you are supporting her community efforts. In 2010, Hair by Karyne, founded her nonprofit Yadestiny Treasure Chest. The 501(c)3 organization provides clothing to children in need all over the world, starting here in Brooklyn, NY. Karyne philanthropic nature is not done, in January 2022, she has partnered with Well Cloth’d, a fellow nonprofit to make a greater impact with in their communities.
